Drug Court Rally Attended

Heartview addiction counselor Brenda Fetting, LAC, attended the 2011 Drug Court Conference and Rally on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, July 18-24. In attendance from across the country were judges, prosecutors, addiction counselors, probation officers, school police officers, and other interested professionals. The purpose of the rally was both educational and an opportunity to lobby congressional leaders for continued funding of the Drug Court System.
Drug Court is a program for teens, ages 14 through 21, who are in trouble and have alcohol/drug related legal issues. As an alternative to being placed in a detention center, participating teens can work their way out of the legal system by doing community service, staying clean, participating in social activities, writing papers for the judge, and doing well in treatment, home, and school.
“The Drug Court system is 80% less expensive than maintaining a juvenile in a detention center,” says Brenda. “This system gives teens another way out of their legal problems. It’s a way of giving motivated teens a better chance at life.”
