From the Executive Director - Spring/Summer 2012

Posted 5/24/12 (Thu)

It is with great pride that I announce that Heartview Foundation has achieved accreditation by the Joint Commission.  The Joint Commission is the leading health care accrediting body in the world, evaluating and accrediting nearly 16,000 health care organizations in the United States.

Over a five-decade period, the Joint Commission has developed state-of-the-art standards and performance expectations for the health care industry.  Achieving accreditation signifies that Heartview Foundation has met or exceeded the Joint Commission’s several hundred national standards for Behavioral Health Care facilities.

Heartview’s accreditation is the culmination of a 2-plus year venture to achieve this goal.  Heartview’s process began with self-evaluation of every aspect of Heartview’s services, measuring them against the Joint Commission’s rigorous standards.   Nearly every staff member at Heartview was involved in this venture at some level, as Heartview sought to meet or exceed these standards of excellence.

Areas evaluated included residential and outpatient care, patient rights, patient records, infection prevention, emergency management, human resources, leadership, information management, life safety, national patient safety goals, medication management, environment of care, and laboratory testing.

After this self-evaluation and subsequent development and implementation of required improvements, Heartview scheduled an on-site survey by a Joint Commission representative.  This very thorough survey took place March 14-16, 2012.

Standards compliance was evaluated by the surveyor using a variety of methods, including staff interviewing, patient record reviews, policy and procedure reviews, and direct observation of patient care and practices.

Heartview will strive to meet these standards, and maintain our accreditation into the future.  Heartview’s services will be reviewed by the Joint Commission yearly, with an on-site visit occurring every 3 years.  This represents Heartview’s commitment toward continuous improvement in delivering safe, high quality patient care.

It is truly an honor to be the Executive Director of Heartview Foundation.  The professionalism and dedication of our staff is second to none.  The support of the Board of Directors in achieving this goal was also a key factor in its success.

My gratitude goes out to all members of this great organization.  It is through them that hope and healing is brought to our patients and their families.  This is our highest privilege and most important goal.
