From the Executive Director - Summer 2011

I hope this newsletter finds you safe and dry. So many friends and family are caught in this terrible flooding. We have five staff members whose homes are significantly impacted by the flood. It is hard to find the silver lining in this tragic event, but it is incredible to see the sense of community, volunteering and charity. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you that may be in harm’s way.

With all this in mind, it is difficult to be excited about the completion of our renovation project. In October we began the journey of renovating 2/3 of our space. We maintained all of our services as we moved through a three phase project.

 Staff and patients became accustomed to the interruptions of jackhammers, concrete saws, hammers and dust. Through all of the extreme heat and cold in the group rooms and offices, we fought hard to keep some normalcy in our services. I am so proud of our staff and patients for their focus and determination.

Of course, we were busier than ever. From October 1, 2010 through June 24, 2011, we admitted 219 patients into our programs. This is a 255% increase from the same time frame one year ago of 86 admissions.

Our new space is incredible. The design and the utilization are awesome. We have been able to spread out and really appreciate what we now have. On June 4, 2011, we began hosting our open AA Speaker Meeting. The speakers and AA groups have been fabulous! We started attracting about 30 people for the meeting and this last Saturday accommodated almost 50. The meeting space has room for over 150 people, so we are hopeful that the word continues to spread.

 We are moving forward with a new media campaign with Midcontinent Communications. They are going to help us shoot some new commercials that will help open the door to our services a little wider. We want to give everyone a view of the inside of our programs and put a face on the dedicated counselors, nurses, residential techs and other staff who work so tirelessly to make the Heartview Foundation the best it can be.

Finally, I need to mention that we are having a public Open House on Friday July 29th from 1 – 3 p.m. prior to the start of the reunion. I invite you to come and see the new and improved Heartview Foundation, either during the public Open House or during the reunion Open House later that evening.
