Heartview Foundation is for Adolescents and Adults seeking ASAM Level 3.5, 3.1, 2.5, and 1 with the benefit of experiential therapy. Heartview Foundation is grounded in the principles of the 12 Steps. We offer hope, fellowship, and a unique opportunity to work with horses during the recovery process. Classroom content is combined with experiential activities with horses in such a way that the steps, recovery skills, and treatment goals come to life. We use a cofacilitating Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) model equine assisted therapy program. The EAGALA model has been found to work well for those struggling with addiction issues, PTSD, and trauma.
EAGALA is a non-profit organization developed to address the need for resources, education, and professionalism in the field of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP). EAP incorporates horses experientially to facilitate clients' emotional growth and learning. It is a collaborative effort between a licensed therapist and an equine professional, working with clients and horses to address treatment goals. Activities with the horses are designed to help clients contend with real-life issues in an outdoor setting. Horses don't accept "talk." It's one thing to discuss in group how you react when you are frustrated; however, your honest reactions become very clear when the horses are not doing what you want them to do. Clients quickly recognize unhealthy patterns, and we help them develop new behaviors. We will use EAGALA-certified professionals to work with a wide range of behavioral issues such as addiction, anger management, stress management, coping skills, team building, leadership development, and more.
Our dedication to this modality comes from being both a product of the power found in the human-animal bond as well as an observer of the profound "ah-ha" moments that occur for clients participating in this modality. This personal experience, along with the growing body of research documenting the power of this therapy and living our purpose, is what drives us to provide a safe, calming environment for individuals to experience the healing power of horses and to overcome obstacles keeping them from attaining all that life has to offer them.
