Heartview Parent Network Initiated

Posted 2/09/11 (Wed)

The “Heartview Parent Network” is a group of supportive parents whose sons or daughters are involved with alcohol or drug use. Parents are welcome, whether their children are in the experimental stage, or have experienced chemical dependency treatment. The focus of the group is on the parents and their needs, not the using child.

The group meets on Tuesdays from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Heartview.   There is no charge or registration for the program. Parents are welcome to attend single sessions, or may come every Tuesday. The weekly meetings are divided into two parts: education through speakers and videos, and discussion and support for parents who attend.

Confidentiality and anonymity receive the highest priority. Parents may use first names only. The need to respect confidentiality is stressed to all in attendance. Considerate, respectful, and non-judgmental interaction is encouraged, and when sharing, parents are guided in taking turns when speaking.

Three-part sessions on “Stress and Anger Management” were held on November 23, 30 and December 7th. “Surviving the Holidays” is the topic for the December 14 session and “How to Stop Enabling and Start Empowering Kids” is scheduled for December 21st.
