Honorary Chair Named for Heartview Capital Campaign

Posted 11/27/13 (Wed)

(Bismarck, North Dakota) Heartview Foundation announced today that Bismarck native and CNN Hero Anne Mahlum has agreed to be Honorary Chair of its “50 Years of Hope” $1 million capital campaign. The campaign was launched this fall to help Heartview expand substance abuse treatment services in western North Dakota in response to the growing demand.

“I’m honored to have been asked by Heartview to be the Honorary Chair of the campaign,” said Mahlum.  “The organization has a very special place in my heart because 26 years ago my dad was a patient there and they helped him find his way to sobriety and happiness.”

Mahlum is founder and former CEO of Back on My Feet, a national, non-profit organization that uses running as a basis to help those experiencing homelessness change their self-concept. Under Mahlum’s leadership, the organization, founded in Philadelphia, established chapters in 11 cities. The organization currently has a $6.5 million budget, 48 staff members and, most importantly, has helped more than 1,300 individuals find self-sufficiency.

Mahlum is in demand as a keynote speaker on such topics as finding your passion, social change, fundraising, leadership and being the best version of yourself. Heartview and Mahlum are planning a spring event, including a Walk/Run, for the Bismarck-Mandan area, that will be a fundraiser for Heartview.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Anne,” said Kurt Snyder, executive director of Heartview Foundation. “Based on her personal experiences, including working the homeless population, she has first-hand knowledge of addiction and how it destroys lives.”

Since 1964 Heartview Foundation has provided addiction treatment services to over 26,000 patients. Heartview is the longest running, non-profit, substance abuse treatment center in North Dakota.
