Marvis Doster, CARN, Heartview’s Director of Nursing and Residential Services, recently presented a 2-hour webinar entitled “Short-Term Opioid Withdrawal Using Buprenorphine.” Substance abuse professionals from 30 states across the United States tuned in to Marvis’s presentation.
“The seminar was part of a blending initiative sponsored by the Addiction Treatment & Transfer Center (ATTC),“ explains Marvis. “There are federally funded ATTC’s throughout the country whose purpose is to advance public health and wellness in the field of addictions.” The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) oversees the ATTC Network which seeks to improve addiction-related clinical practices. The content of this webinar was developed by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and distributed to the regional ATTC’s for dissemination.
“It is very gratifying to know that the Medication-Assisted Therapy provided by Dr. Melissa Henke and the Heartview staff is part of the best evidence-based practices offered throughout the United States. Our treatment services have been greatly enhanced by Dr. Henke’s willingness to provide Buprenorphine therapy to our patients with opioid dependence,“ Marvis explains. “As part of my own training with ATTC and my experience at Heartview, I have been fortunate to be able to present information throughout the Prairie Lands ATTC states regarding this therapy. The medication has made a remarkable difference in the lives of our patients and has strengthened their recovery efforts.”
