Reunion 2010 a Huge Success
Posted 8/27/10 (Fri)
Nearly 150 people returned to Heartview for the reunion on the weekend of August 6 - 8, 2010. Attendees were Heartview alumni family members, and friends from as far back as the 1970’s .
The event began Friday evening with an open house and tours of the building. Following the tours, the Heartview Foundation building was buzzing with open Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and Al-Anon meetings. An ice cream social followed when many patients found one another for the first time in many years.
Saturday festivities began in the morning with a 5k walk/run through a Bismarck park. Two workshops were held at Heartview Saturday afternoon. “Addictions 101” was presented by nationally known speaker Delbert Boone. “Heartview Then and Now” was presented by Director of Counseling Services, Bruce Carlson, and Director of Residential & Nursing Services, Marvis Doster. Saturday evening activities included a social and banquet at a Bismarck hotel. Delbert Boone, shared the story of his life from being homeless and addicted, to becoming one of the addiction field’s most awarded educator/advocate. The evening ended with live music by a local band.
The gathering continued on Sunday morning under a tent on the Heartview property. Reverend Robert Nordvall, Heartview’s chaplain of over 25 years, delivered a Sunday morning message of hope. A catered picnic followed with more fellowship and activities for kids including an inflatable jumping house and face painting.
Through the hard work of many volunteers and Heartview staff members, Heartview patients and their families reconnected with friends, and celebrated their personal recovery victories.
