Rita’s first period of addiction began when she was only 12 and was introduced to alcohol. When she was 18 she started drugs. Her drugs of choice were heroin, opiates and meth.
“I was trying to get clean on my own and I ended up in the hospital. About three days into the hospital stay a friend brough drugs into the facility and I got high in there. They kicked me out.”
“When I came down from the high, I realized I needed help. I wanted my life back, I wanted my kids, I wanted to be with my husband. CPS was involved and it was a huge mess. Within the next week I called Heartview. By some miracle I got in right away and my life changed forever.”
“To someone who is currently struggling, I would say recovery is possible. You can find recovery. It is a day at a time program, sometimes it is a minute at a time or a second at a time.” Rita is now celebrating six years of sobriety.
